UN-MASKING MUM

RELEASE DATE: 2nd July 2026

So now it all makes sense…

For years, I felt like I was failing at something that seemed to come so naturally to everyone else. Motherhood left me overwhelmed — the noise, the chaos, the constant demands — and I couldn’t understand why I found it so much harder.

It turns out that autism didn't just appear in our family lineage with the arrival of Finley and Poppy. Guess what? It was me all along - oops! At 41, I received my autism diagnosis, and everything finally clicked.

Unmasking Mum is my story — from feeling like the “odd mum out” to navigating family burnout and meltdowns (mine included), all while trying to show up for my children. It’s about discovering who I really am and learning to accept myself without the mask.

I’ve written this with honesty, humour, and everything I’ve learned along the way, for any parent who feels different, overwhelmed, or unseen.

You’re not alone — and you’re not failing. Sometimes, you’re just discovering who you’ve always been.

About Me

Hi, I’m Lisa.

You may know me as ASD With A G&T — or perhaps as that woman on TikTok who dances around supermarkets with her long-suffering husband, Terry.

However you found me, I’m really glad you’re here. Everyone is welcome.

I’ve never been particularly good at fitting neatly into one box, and I’ve always found it a little hard to answer the question, “What do you do?” The truth is, I’m just doing my best — as a content creator, a bestselling author, and, most importantly, mum to Finley and Poppy.

My debut book, Raising the SEN-detweeners, was born out of lived experience, a lot of learning, and a desire to help others feel a little less alone. I’ve also somehow built a community of over half a million followers across social media, despite always finding it hard to make friends — which still feels mildly ridiculous, if I’m honest.

My two neurodivergent children have turned my life — and my house — upside down in the very best way. They are the reason I care so deeply about hidden disabilities, awareness, and creating a world that is more understanding and inclusive.

I live in Kent with Terry, Finley, Poppy, Frankie the Labrador and Herman the tortoise. My hope is simple: a world where hidden disabilities are better understood and accepted — and, ideally, a house with an en-suite bathroom of my own so I can do my business in peace.
